We're gearing up to offer another session of the Urban Sustainability Skills workshop series! This interactive 8 week course is great for anyone who wants to learn more about what sustainability means and how to actually implement more socially and eco-responsible practices into daily life. Through this 8 week series of discussions and hands-on workshops, we’ll learn how to grow and preserve our own food, make our own cleaning products, build a more inclusive community, and lessen our eco-footprint. The course runs Tuesdays 6-8 pm, running from September 22nd to November 17th, 2015 at Sustainable Concordia (2090 Mackay, Montreal). The cost for students/recent grads is a sliding scale of $70-110 plus $15 for materials. For non-students/recent grads, the sliding scale is $90-130 plus $15 for materials. For a detailed course plan and registration info, please visit our workshops page. Registration closes September 20th. Shona will be giving a workshop on fermentation at Coop Le Milieu on Thursday, August 20th.
Fermentation: Thursday, August 20, 6:00-8:00 at Coop Le Milieu Suggested donation: $10 (PWYC) Mandatory registration. Fermentation is the process of cultivating living food. Your body depends on many trillions of bacteria and fungi in order to function. Fermented foods such as yogurt, kombucha, and kefir help keep your internal ecosystem diverse and thriving. In this workshop you’ll learn about how fermentation works, its health benefits, and some easy recipes for you to try at home. You will have the opportunity to take home a starter kit to make sauerkraut (fermented cabbage). Shona from Le TinyHomestead will be giving a workshop on canning at 6 pm on Thursday, August 13th at Le Milieu. In this workshop, we'll talk about what types of fruits and vegetables can be canned at home, and how to safely prepare them. You will have the opportunity to make and take home some preserves, based on what is seasonally available.
