"Shona led three workshops for us at the Redpath Museum: two for undergrad students and one for parents and children together. Shona is highly organized, well-versed in a wide range of topics, and comes with everything prepared and ready to go. Her interest and passion for living more sustainably come through in an easy-going way that works well with different audiences. We will definitely be having Shona back for more workshops at the Museum!" "I found the Urban Sustainability course to be exactly what I needed in helping me make beneficial changes in my life. I really enjoyed the hands-on activities, making and using things (e.g., homemade applesauce, canning, growing our own sprouts) that were immediately useful in our daily lives. I liked the broadened definition of sustainability that I gained, seeing that it goes beyond just the environment. This course makes it easier to see how we can live and work with, and benefit from nature even though we live in urban environments, so I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants a little more green in their urban lives." |
"Taking the 'Urban Sustainability Skills class' from Shona was one of the best things I have done for my development in a long time. The class not only helped me to understand that sustainability was even around me everyday, but also I learned that sustainability, or to be precise being sustainable, was so critical for the future of our world and also human kind, it was simply unavoidable. Thus, I have figured that I needed to reorganize my priorities and personal goals in life. Shona created such an environment in the class and supported her students, and she helped me to take part in sustainability related groups, which has been a very fulfilling experience.
In the class, I learned about different categories of sustainability including some statistics and facts that surprised me a lot and actually I realized that I am part of these statistics, and most likely on the dark side :) I basically had a mirror facing me and showing me that I was not, sustainability wise, as innocent as I thought I was.
Now I am actually looking for jobs where I can use my job/academic experience for a good cause, i.e. sustainability. Thank you Shona!"

"Last year I decided to take the Urban Sustainability Skills class with Shona. I have been always curious about sustainability in general, so this course seemed interesting. The classes were more than interesting, Shona prepares each class in a way that it is not only informative but also at the end of the class you have a clear idea of what to do and how you can make differences relevant to what was discussed (not to mention the workshops, those were real fun!). It has been a year since I took the course, and now I am more aware about my decisions as a consumer not only for myself, but also about the impact of my decisions have on the environment." |
